Position Responsibilities:

Scrum Masters are an Agile coach, facilitator, and the one responsible to remove impediments to their team. According to the Agile Alliance:  The scrum master is the team role responsible for ensuring the team lives agile values and principles and follows the processes and practices that the team agreed they would use.

The responsibilities of this role include:

  • Clearing obstacles
  • Establishing an environment where the team can be effective
  • Addressing team dynamics
  • Ensuring a good relationship between the team and product owner- as well as others outside the team
  • Protecting the team from outside interruptions and distractions

Required Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for this position is an experienced professional with a very strong technical and consulting background:

  • 5+ years’ experience working at a large, compliance-driven software/systems engineering organization
  • Familiarity with modern enterprise software technologies including Model Based Systems Engineering
  • Excellent presentation, analytical, problem-solving and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Self-starter accustomed to a fast-paced environment
  • First level Scrum Master certification (CSM, ACP, SSM, PSM)
  • Experience playing the Scrum Master role for at least one year for a team diligently applying Scrum principles, practices, and theory
  • Demonstrable servant leadership skills in the areas of group facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continuous improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency
  • Knowledge of numerous, well documented patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach (examples: Burndown techniques, Retrospective formats, handling bugs)
  • Experience using software tools to manage scrum teams
  • Familiarity with the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)
  • Excellent communication and mentoring skills
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or a related field

Additional Requirements:

  • US citizen. This position is located at a facility that requires special access.*** THIS POSITION REQUIRES A MINIMUM OF AN INTERIM SECRET CLEARANCE TO START.
  • Position is located in Huntsville, Alabama

Extra Credit Skills/Experience:

  • Second level Scrum Master certification (CSP, PSM II, SASM)
  • Experience playing the Scrum Master role for at least two years for a team diligently applying Scrum principles, practices, and theory.
  • Experience in other Agile approaches: SAFe, Disciplined Agile, XP, Kanban, Crystal, FDD, etc
  • Knowledge and/or experience with widely successful Agile Systems Engineering techniques: MBSE, ATDD, TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing, Agile Games
  • Previous experience as a team/project lead
